Latest information

Ravenshead Police Contact Point

The future of our Contact Point remains under review, all Police premises are being reviewed as part of the Government's review of public spending.

Ravenshead Neighbourhood Watch is gravely concerned at the prospect of losing the Police Contact Point in our village.  We accept that there are costs to maintaining the Contact Point, that few people ever need a “front counter service” and that no calls were made from the telephone by the front door in the last twelve months.  However, it is quite plain that highly visible Police using it as a base for work throughout the Beat Area do have a deterrent effect on crime in our village.  RNW has contributed to the Police Consultation Process in a positive way, rather than simply protesting, and we are now further developing the case in response to the initially dismissive Police Authority reply.  We are engaged in discussions with a County Councillor, and we have circulated an LGM to assist the Police in their search for alternative accommodation.

Recent Cycle Coding activity

RNW held its annual cycle coding session on Saturday 1 October where 15 bikes were successfully coded, evidence shows that coded cycles are less likely to be stolen, in the unfortunate circumstance where a theft does occur a coded cycle has much increased prospects of successful recovery.

In addition general crime prevention advice was offered and security items such as personal alarms, purse bells and UV pens were sold.

All in all a successful activity for your local Neighbourhood Watch.

SCAMS - latest reports

Tax Rebate email scam

Please be aware of an email scam which claim recipients have been awarded a tax rebate and asks for credit card and bank details. HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) are warning tax payers and Internet users in Nottinghamshire of this scam. The scam takes the form of an email and informs recipients that they are due a tax rebate. The email contains a link to a cloned replica of the HMRC website. The HMRC are fully aware of this scam and are carrying out ongoing work to continue to shut down cloned websites.

If you are in doubt always check the sender information, and if you are unsure make contact with the organisation to confirm whether the email is genuine. You are advised not to personal details via email or the Internet unless you are sure this is a genuine site and has the necessary Internet security measures in place to protect your personal information.

Burglar Alarm Scam (again)

A firm called St Johns Security is contacting residents by telephone offering to install a monitored burglar alarm free of charge. This company is in no way connected to the St John Ambulance charity. Nor is it working in partnership with the Police nor does it pay any money to the Police.
Such companies make their money by tying people in to lengthy contracts at high cost and will often expect to be paid half up front. A typical cost would be £3,000. Compare this with the guide price for a basic professionally installed system for a typical house of around £500.

We would recommend that you do not purchase any security measure from uninvited callers - either by telephone or door to door.
Reputable companies will usually be members of NSI - the National Security Inspectorate ( http://www.nsi.org.uk) or SSAIB the Security Systems Alarms Inspection Board (http://www.ssaib.co.uk) and we would recommend that you get three quotes from such companies before appointing a contractor to supply, fit and maintain your alarm system. If you are in doubt Nottinghamshire Police operate a free of charge security quotation comparison service in the Broxtowe, Gedling and Rushcliffe Borough areas. To contact this service please either email

southnottscrm@nottinghamshire.pnn.police.uk or telephone 0300 300 9999 ext. 850 4174
